Meet Vivian Chew, Wife of TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew

The prohibition on TikTok has been widely reported over the previous few days, and users have expressed concern. TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, has been deemed a threat to national security. TikTok has been under fire recently for how it handles user-submitted content.

They worry that young people may be vulnerable to online predators if they use social media. There are more than 150 million downloads of the app in the US alone. Who is TikTok CEO Wife?

After TikTok’s original CEO stepped down in 2021, Shou was promoted to the position of chief executive officer. He met his future wife, Vivian Kao, in 2008 while they were both students at Harvard Business School; he is a native Singaporean. Vivian is an American of Taiwanese descent who works in the banking industry. She is a non-executive director at the Hong Kong-based financial services provider Sun Hung Kai & Co.

While being on the board of Wellesley College in Massachusetts, Vivian serves as CEO and principal of Tamarind Global. She attended the university as an undergraduate, majoring in economics and Chinese studies, before continuing her education with a Master of Business Administration from Harvard. Their riches are undeniable, but up until Shou’s appearance before Congress, she and her husband had largely avoided the spotlight.

Shou was heavily questioned during his Congressional Testimony

Both Democrats and Republicans were pretty hostile to Shou during his testimony on Congress Hill. Fears centered mostly on the possibility that Bytedance, the Chinese company that owns TikTok, could be co-opted by the Chinese government.

Throughout his evidence, Shou took pains to refute this assertion, noting that American citizens make up the majority of TikTok’s U.S. workers and that the app’s data is stored in the United States. Yet, discussions regarding a possible ban of the app continue to take place on Capitol Hill, despite the fact that it is unclear how such a ban would be imposed or what consequences it could have.
